Working with Paul proved me once again how lucky I am to meet such amazing, determined and professional people. He wanted an eye-catchy book cover to work great both online and in print. Although voice actors are his main target audience, the information he offers in Making Money in Your PJs is relevant to other solopreneurs too, such as graphic designers, photographers and copywriters.
Since he needed the book cover to appeal to general audience rather than just voice-over artists, we stood away from clichés like the ubiquitous microphone or mouth.
Paul’s book is informative as well as entertaining. There’s a lot of humor in it so that needed to come across without the design appear childish. Since it is a non-fiction book, it made sense to create a scene that instantly speaks to the viewer. Paul suggested creating a scene to support and reinforce the title and I chose the image of a young man working on his laptop in his PJ’s.
Because I needed an element of surprise to make the cover look different, I placed the young man on a sofa made out of money bills. This was my way of making the cover look fun yet not childish. Paul’s official brand uses a black and orange color scheme that offers great contrast and visibility. For the cover of Making Money in Your PJs, I kept true to his main color scheme so that everything is consistent with his brand, nethervoice.
Making a great team with clients is absolutely crucial for a great project outcome. Paul was an amazing team player! I am extremely happy and proud to have provided him with a book cover design that he really loves! He was extremely kind to dedicate an entire article describing how satisfied he was with the design process of his book. Thank you so much, Paul, and looking forward to working with you again!
