The field of interactive magazines—or e-Zines—is quite new. I knew absolutely nothing about it when I embarked on the Babies & Breastfeeding Magazine project. Everything was a challenge: the platform, the settings, the features, the design itself. Nonetheless, I loved every single step of the way because I got the chance to learn a tremendous amount of things.
Given the platform we aimed—the iPad—there were many details we had to plan. The first thing we had to do was to think completely differently than the design for classic print magazines. Then I created an InDesign template with a solid navigation structure that we could use for creating the upcoming issues. Finally, we focused on a clean layout with easy-to-read text and beautiful imagery to make each page memorable.
The logo and front page mast head were created in collaboration with an impressive illustrator, Roberto Osiris da Silva Filho. You can connect with Roberto and view more of his work on his Behance account.
Without a doubt, this was, is and will always be one of my dearest projects! It’s been a roller-coaster experience that taught me many new things about being a designer. It made me realize I must keep learning new things every single day. But more than anything, working on B&B made me cherish the wonderful people I’m blessed to call client-friends.
Each issue of the Babies & Breastfeeding magazine is packed full of inspirational imagery and content so make sure you check them out in the Apple Store. You can also follow Dr. Theresa’s activity on her Dr. Theresa website or check out her company, Family Health Coaching.
