Mark Lyford is the best proof of how a rebel life can turn into an amazing existence. He is a super busy author and business person so his project brief was, well…it was brief! He simply stated that he was looking for a sharp cover to stand out and make people want to pick it up.
Not having many coordinates from an author is not necessarily a bad thing—it gives a lot of room for creative approaches. These can be worked out beautifully through a close collaboration with the client. That is exactly how the design for Rebel Entrepreneur evolved.
Initially, I started with a different approach for the main graphics. I proposed a stylized fist with the four subtitle elements displayed on the knuckles. Mark felt that the fist was looking a bit too violent for who he really is. So he came up with the idea of using a Phoenix Bird because it also symbolized the change that took place in his life. Additionally, I came up with the four iconic elements to sustain the subtitle visually and then I worked on creating am eye catchy focal point to fit the whole transformation theme. The bright center and the strong contrast made the cover a great eye-grabber.
The design for Rebel Entrepreneur was a wonderful brainstorm project. Mark and I worked great together, firing back and forth creative ideas.
